New truck with dump body to set Welland back $91,929

Truck configured to navigate narrow areas in Welland

A 2024 GMC Sierra 3500 HD with aluminum dump body configured to navigate Welland’s narrow areas daily will set the city back $91,929, says a staff report.

The report from Adam Beres, fleet, equipment and purchasing manager, said the three-ton truck will come from Niagara Motors in Virgil and was approved in the 2023 capital fleet budget.

It replaces an aging unit beyond its service life.

Beres’ report said the city’s request for a new truck was advertised on the city’s Biddingo site and closed April 6.

Two area dealerships responded to the request, with the second from Brock Ford in Niagara Falls with a Ford F500.

“The delay in bringing this recommendation forth is due to ensuring the proper configuration of the vehicle will be met to navigate narrow areas during daily operation,” said Beres’ report.

With a city budget of $99,475, Niagara Motors came in at $91,929 and Brock Ford at $98,690.

The report said Brock Ford had an unknown lead time, and its truck cost could be higher due to factory pricing increases.
