Video shows Sacramento police fatally shoot man armed with knife on train | Weeks after Sacramento police officers shot and killed a man armed with a knife near Sacramento City College, the department released videos of the encounter. The shooting happened Aug. 15 on a light rail train at the City College Station by Hughes Stadium. Police at the time said they tried de-escalation techniques and less-lethal methods of subduing the man before using their firearms. Read more here.

Accused 'serial sexual predator' from Sacramento arrested in New York, police say | A man the Sacramento Police Department is calling a serial sexual predator is under arrest in New York. In a news release posted Thursday morning, Sacramento police announced the arrest of 35-year-old Kabeh Cummings in connection to multiple sexual assaults that occurred within the Sacramento area dating back to 2010. 4 teens arrested after home invasion in Sacramento leads to high-speed chase | Four teens are accused of going on a crime spree from Rancho Cordova to Sacramento and then toward Davis. The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said the suspects stole a car, which was later linked to a home invasion. Then, deputies said the suspects led them on a high-speed chase, which ended on Interstate 80 at the Yolo Causeway where the teenagers were arrested. Read more here.

Placer County Board of Supervisors submit letter opposing sexual predator's transient release | The Placer County Superior Court received a letter of opposition from the county's Board of Supervisors regarding the pending release of a sexually violent predator into a transient placement. A release from the county said the board approved the opposition letter on Tuesday. It urges the superior court to reconsider the release of 66-year-old William Stephenson without finding housing for him that will allow him to be properly monitored first. Read more here.

Calaveras County residents push back against significant water rate increase proposal | Calaveras County residents like Paul Bloom say they are feeling the impacts of inflation and high living costs. Bloom is a retired Arnold resident who says he makes do with small jobs for people here and there. But he is most worried about his neighbors, who are senior citizens, and how high living costs are impacting them. Read more here.

'A jewel for the district': New music venue planned for midtown Sacramento | City leaders and local businesses are eagerly awaiting the development of a new entertainment venue planned for midtown Sacramento. The 24R Theater is in the works on the southwest corner of 24th and R streets, and the venue is expected to have a 2,300-seat capacity. According to the city's planning website, the property used to be an industrial warehouse. It was demolished, and right now, the fencing and construction equipment at the site is signaling a new start. Read more here.

Tropical Storm Idalia descends on North Carolina after pounding Florida, Georgia and South Carolina | Tropical Storm Idalia descended on the Carolinas on its way out to the Atlantic Ocean on Thursday, leaving a trail of flooding and destruction throughout the Southeast that stretched back to its landfall as a hurricane in Florida. Videos show damage caused by Hurricane Idalia | Hurricane Idalia made landfall on Florida's west coast as a dangerous Category 3 storm on Wednesday and unleashed storm surges and rainfall. A building fire in Johannesburg kills at least 73 people, many of them homeless, authorities say | A nighttime fire ripped through a rundown five-story building in Johannesburg that was occupied by homeless people and squatters, killing at least 73 people early Thursday, emergency services in South Africa's biggest city said. Some of the people living in a maze of shacks and other makeshift structures inside the building threw themselves out of windows to escape the fire and might have died then, a local government official said. Mitch McConnell appears to freeze during media gaggle before being escorted out | U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell made a stop in northern Kentucky Wednesday, where during a media gaggle, appeared to have some trouble understanding and speaking with reporters. McConnell was in northern Kentucky for the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Government Forum in Kenton County. Read more here.

'Quite the scene': 5 million bees fall off truck near Toronto | Police west of Toronto on Wednesday warned drivers to keep their car windows closed after a truck spilled crates carrying five million bees onto a road. Halton Regional Police said they received a call around 6:15 a.m. reporting the bee crates had come loose from a truck and spilled onto Guelph Line, north of Dundas Street, in Burlington, Ontario, just west of Toronto. Meteorologist Tamara Berg says Northern California is waking up to another hazy morning with some smoke still around. The smoke will clear by midday or early afternoon.

Winds will increase today from the southwest, with some of the strongest gusts expected along the Delta.

Temperatures today will be warm, with highs peaking in the low 90s.

Clouds will increase tonight into Friday as a system moves in, bringing with it the chance of rain for the Foothills and Sierra.
